Seaport Farmers' Market Green Roof, Halifax, NS
The Seaport Green Roof is a 16 000 sq foot extensive green roof, the second largest in Canada at the time of this writing, on a LEED platinum building on the Seaport in Halifax, NS.
The green roof won the 2012 Greenroofs for Healthy Cities Award of Excellence for Extensive Commercial/ Industrial Green Roof.
Ange did the planting design for the green roof while at Vollick McKee Petersmann, developing the design and plant list for this challenging site, on the edge of the sea - exposed to heavy winds and salt spray, from conceptual design through detailed tender drawings. The planting strategy ensures that there is interest throughout the seasons.
Almost four years since install, the green roof is flourishing despite harsh conditions, and continues to provide delight and year-round interest to residents and visitors.
